FAQ
How many IPL hair removal treatments will I need?
The number of treatments varies from person to person. Hair growth, treatment area, hormones, hair density and consistency with appointments can all affect results. Most clients require a series of treatments because IPL is most effective when hair is in an active growth phase. At Rapi’s Secret, treatments are pay-as-you-go so your progress can be assessed along the way rather than committing you to a fixed package.
Is IPL hair removal permanent?
IPL is best described as long-term hair reduction rather than guaranteed permanent hair removal. Many clients experience a significant reduction in the amount, thickness and speed of hair growth. Maintenance treatments may occasionally be needed over time, especially when hormonal changes affect hair growth.
Can I shave between IPL treatments?
Yes. Shaving is the preferred method of hair removal between IPL appointments. Avoid waxing, tweezing, threading or sugaring because these methods remove the hair from the follicle, which IPL needs to target effectively.
Can I have IPL if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
IPL treatments are not performed during pregnancy. At Rapi’s Secret, IPL is also postponed while breastfeeding as a precaution. Hormonal changes during pregnancy and breastfeeding can affect skin sensitivity, pigmentation and hair growth, so treatment can be reassessed afterwards.
What happens after an IPL photofacial?
You may notice mild warmth, redness or sensitivity after treatment. Areas of pigmentation can temporarily look darker or develop a peppered, coffee-ground appearance before gradually fading or shedding. This is a normal response. Avoid picking or exfoliating these areas and protect your skin with SPF 30–50.
Is there downtime after IPL?
Downtime is usually minimal, but this depends on the treatment area and your individual skin response. Mild redness, warmth or sensitivity can occur for several hours or occasionally a few days. After a photofacial, pigmentation may temporarily darken before fading. You should avoid excessive heat, strenuous exercise, irritating skincare and sun exposure while the skin is settling.
Does IPL hair removal hurt?
Most clients describe IPL as a brief warm snap or light elastic-band sensation. Comfort levels vary depending on the treatment area and individual sensitivity. Settings are customized to your skin and hair while keeping treatment safety and comfort in mind.
Why do I need to avoid tanning before IPL?
IPL targets pigment. When the skin is tanned, there is more pigment present in the skin, which can increase the risk of unwanted reactions. IPL will not be performed on sun-tanned or sunburned skin, and tanning beds or self-tanning products should be avoided before treatment.
Not sure if IPL is right for you?
Your consultation is the first step. We'll discuss your skin, hair growth, goals and medical history and determine the safest treatment approach for you.
